CHANDIGARH, MARCH 8:

“Every single person who comes into the world has a right to dignified life, hope to achieve anything and equal opportunities.” These views were expressed by the former Union Minister Mrs. Preneet Kaur here today during ‘Women’s Pride Conclave’ organized by Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal (ZPHH) as part of the ‘International Women’s Day’.

The former Union Minister further said that it is a matter of pride that women in modern era are no longer confined within the four walls of home but are carving out a niche for themselves in every field holding their head high. Describing women as a pillar of strength, she said that they provide the rock solid foundation which ensures the erection of the edifice of success. Remembering her tenure as the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Mrs. Preneet Kaur said that it was a moment of immense pride for her when she became a witness to the creation of the women’s wing in the United Nations (UN) further cementing the belief that women are second to none. Quoting the Former Secretary General of UN Mr. Kofi Annan, she said that “There is no tool for development more effective than empowerment of women.” The former Union Minister cited the example of Education Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary as proof that there is no sphere where the women have not left their indelible mark.

In her address on the occasion, Education Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary while thanking ZPHH for the conclave said that an ideal society can only be created when the women are treated with respect and dignity and are empowered enough to go about their goals in life. Listing the women empowerment as the top priority of the present Punjab Government, the minister said that eminent cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur has been provided the job of DSP in the Punjab Police and besides her another player Wrestler Navjot Kaur who won the Gold medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship has been offered the post of DSP apart from the announcement of Rs. 5 lakh prize. The minister further added that the laurels won by these 2 women players would act as an inspiration for the other women to also aspire for and pursue their cherished dreams.

On the occasion, women achievers from diverse fields were also honoured by Mrs. Preneet Kaur. Those who received the honours included Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Razia Sultana, AAP MLA from Talwandi Sabo Prof. Baljinder Kaur, AAP MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, Anchal Thakur (Skiing), Maninderjeet Kaur (Health), Karishma Aggarwal and Surinder Kaur (Both for Social Work), Sukhpal Kaur (Education), Rajwant Kaur (Environment), Paramjeet Kaur (Enterpreneur), Olympian Harwant Kaur DSP, Sunanda Sharma (Singer/Actress), Richa Aggarwal (Beauty & Wellness), Sunita Rungta (Healthcare), Bhawna Grover (Health) and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur (Herbal Products).

Prominent among the eminent personalities present on the occasion included Editor of the ZPHH Mr. Dinesh Sharma.
