LS Polls: Nearly 1 Lac Indians to Be Trained to Check Fake News

Chandigarh, March 18,2019: In a bid to curb fake news during the upcoming general elections, nearly 1 lac Indians will be trained to check the spread of fake news.Popular messaging application WhatsApp along with NASSCOM foundation will train Indians to spot false information and verify the facts before forwarding messages on social media.

The effort is a measure in an attempt to check misuse of the platform WhatsApp during general elections in India.

WhatApp has an active global user base of 1.5 billion, with India as its biggest market.

Facebook owned online messaging app had earlier warned political parties against using the platform for bulk messaging.Also WhatsApp has been working with Election Commission of India to keep a check on fake news spread during upcoming polls.
