People often buy lands that are cheap and easily accessible transport to commute. But they often forget about the Vastu before buying land. According to the Indian Vastu, it is highly recommended to purchase land after consulting a Vastu specialist or even an astrologer. The construction of the house by the architect who believes in astrological facts at the time of designing the house can be hired by the owner to reduce the bad effect on the land if any. Several factors should be considered for exterior Vastu to get the maximum benefit from the land and property purchased or to reduce any harmful effects.
The shape of the land
The best shapes that are considered for the exterior Vastu or property to be constructed are square and rectangular. Though most of the time these kinds of plots are rarely found or pre-engaged. Other shapes can also be considered to construct houses like cow or lion-shaped plots. The lion-shaped plot (Shermukhi) is broader from the front end and narrows at the back end. This type of plot brings fortune to the owner. Whereas, the cow-shaped plot (Gaumukhi) is broad at the front side and broader from the backend which is just opposite of the lion-shaped. However, the Gaumukhi plot is considered to be inauspicious if the narrow side is on the eastern part.
The residential plots need to be flat whereas if there is a slope then it is considered to be beneficial towards the northeast or southwest. The slope at the west is considered to be malefic as it brings conflicts among the family members that also include health hazards.
Remedies for any irregular-shaped lands
The land shapes that should be avoided for purchase are circle or oval, triangle, U or L-shaped plots, and lands that have cuts or extensions. These irregularly shaped plots could be made useful by making a few changes. They are
- The plots could be divided into two separate plots by constructing roads or compound walls● The temples or construction of garages can be done to divert the negative effects of irregularly shaped plots
- Other tips for the removal of Vastu Dosa could be done by planting trees or placing Vastu pyramids at the extended corners of the plots. Copper strips are ideal for a southeast extension or even rocks can be used to nullify the negative effects of exterior Vastu
- If the northeast is higher than any other direction of the land then the soil from this direction could be used towards the south and west direction to make them raise
Tests Considered The Positivity of a Land
Several tests need to be done while purchasing land for the positivity test of the plot. These are water tests, seed germination tests, and the taste or smell of the soil.
The water test is done by digging an 18-inch pit and pouring water into it. The time to wait should be a minimum of 3 minutes. It is suggested not to buy the land if all the water is soaked leaving only a few centimeters of water residue. If the water enters deep down to 30 cm then the plot is considered to be medium-grade. The land is considered to be fit for construction when all the water is soaked up. The water of the pit moves clockwise then it is considered to have positive energy within the plot and vice-versa. The negative flow of energy indicates financial loss and health issues.
The seed germination test is done by planting basil seeds on the plot to check the positivity of the land. If the seeds germinate and grow to a healthy plant then the land is considered to be fit for construction.
The smell and color test of the soil is done again to check the positivity of the land. The test is done by digging a few centimeters below the top layer and checking the smell and color. If the smell is organic then the site is considered to be good.
Other tips that should be considered before buying a site are
- Avoid the lands that are near a graveyard or burial sites
- Avoid any land that is opposite religious institutions or hospitals
- The estate has two separate plots or buildings is often considered to attract misfortune for the smaller plot as considered the larger one to be important
- It is considered to be unlucky if the property is surrounded by hills, tall buildings, or even trees on the western or southwestern side
- The plots are considered to be lucky if there are roads on all sides whether it’s a residential or a commercial one
- The land that has vacant areas in the northeast is considered to be auspicious
- The land has a river, lake, or any water body on the north or east side is considered to be lucky
The northeast corner of the exterior Vastu is considered the most auspicious corner of the house and land. It is considered the head of Lord Vastu. Thus cut in this area is considered to be malefic and the owner might report for a standstill life. The cut along with the northwest corner brings health issues to the family. A cut along with the southwest corner invites unnecessary pressure within the family. The southeast cut creates various types of obstruction within the life that could bring poverty and loss of family members.
Balcony or Terrace
The balcony or extensions situated on the north or eastern side of the house are considered to be beneficial. While the south and western side of the balcony is considered to have a negative effect. The shape of a balcony should be either square or rectangle. It is to be noted that the floor of the balcony needs to be lower by a few centimeters from the floor of the main building. The roof of the balcony needs to slope towards the northeast.
The roof also needs to be lower than the floor of the main building. The southwest side of the balcony needs to be well decorated with flower pots or plants but there should be no creepers and the side should be cleaned at regular intervals.
The fountain on the northeast side of the terrace can be constructed as it could bring positive energy. If the furniture is used at the terrace then it should be of wood and wrought iron needs to be avoided. The floor of the terrace should be raised by a few centimeters on the southwest side and sloping towards the northeast is considered auspicious. The clutters at the balcony or terrace need to be decluttered at regular intervals. Swings at the balcony or terrace should be placed on the northwest side and it should face towards the east or north.
Staircase of the Property
The staircases outside a house should be on the southeast side of the property and east facing. While at southwest if the plot is west facing. Again if the plot is south facing, the staircase should be on the southwest side. And lastly, the north-facing plots may have northwest staircases. The direction of the staircase should be from north to south or should be from east to west. The orientation of the staircase should be clockwise. While the shape of the staircase should be rectangular or even square and should bend at an angle of 90 degrees. The steps of the staircase should be odd and the color is maintained as a light shade. The materials for the staircase could be marble or stones. Some of the staircases don’t have handrails which are not proper for safety or according to Vastu.
The rise of the staircase is considered to be 18 inches on average. According to Vastu, the staircase situated in the middle of the house or property can lead to complications in the pregnancy of resident females.
- Now, it is to be noted that the staircases should not be built on the northeast side internally or even externally and in front of the house entrance.
- Staircases should not start in front of the kitchen, prayer room, or even the store room.
- The broken or creaky staircases need to be repaired immediately. The spiral staircases also should be avoided as it creates exterior Vastu defects.
