PM’s social media accounts with women on March 8

Ending all speculations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said he would hand over his social media accounts to women on International Women’s Day this Sunday.

“This Women’s Day, I will give away my social media accounts to women whose life and work inspire us. This will help them ignite motivation in millions. Are you such a woman or do you know such inspiring women? Share such stories using #SheInspiresUs,” PM Modi tweeted, thereby putting a stop to various speculations that erupted after his surprise announcement late last evening that he was “thinking” of “giving up” his social media accounts on Sunday.

The announcement had set the social media buzzing. Apart from countless requests asking him to reconsider his decision and scoffs and brickbats lobbed by his rivals, some interesting theories also started doing the rounds with the aim to decipher the cryptic message.

Given that Sunday happened to be the Women’s Day, many correctly read it as a “teaser” for the day. Notably the message posted by him had said: “This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube. Will keep you all posted.” While nowhere did he say he was quitting social media platforms, among the theories being floated was the possibility of India launching own social platforms and a “ban” on the services in India.
