Society needs honest and efficient officers

While addressing the Standing Committee Meeting of Chairpersons of State Public Service Commission held here today, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that the Standing Committee meetings have emerged as an effective platform for sharing the ideas, experiences and practices related to the functioning of Public Service Commissions. He said that the meetings were playing catalytic role in not only improving the functioning of State Public service Commissions for meeting the public aspirations, but also helping in creating conducive environment for the independent working of the Commissions. He said that these meetings enable the Commissions to learn from each other’s experiences and then replicate the same in their institutions to benefit the aspirants of Public Services.

While underlining the importance of recruiting authority such as Public Service Commissions, the Chief Minister said that the founder of our Constitution has bestowed upon the Public Service Commissions, Constitutional status, making them immune to any type of external pressures. He said that society at large needs honest and efficient services from public functionaries and the services have to be result oriented. Thus the officers selected by the Public Service Commission ought to devote themselves in the service of the public, he added.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission was one of the best institutions known for its prestige and fair selections. He said that the Commission has also introduced several IT reforms which have proved beneficial to the aspirants. He said that the State Commission has also introduced other reforms such as switching from HAS pattern to IAS pattern, which would immensely benefit the IAS aspirants and this would bring continuity in the preparations for these examinations.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that all the Public Service Commission would continue to discharge their Constitutional obligations effectively and efficiently by maintaining highest standards of integrity to come up to the aspirations of the society. He said that the State Government would provide all possible help to the Commission for its effective functioning.

He said that despite being a small State, Himachal Pradesh has made immense contribution in the different fields of development. He said that the State has emerged as a frontrunner State in the country in various spheres. He said that the functioning of the Commission should be fair and free from external pressures. He said that providing best officers to the Government to serve the people was the duty of the Commission.

Chairman Standing Committee Prof Ghanta Chakrapani said that the State of Himachal Pradesh was not only blessed by nature with immense scenic beauty but the people of the State were honest, hardworking and god fearing

Chairman Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission Retd. Maj Gen. DVS Rana welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion. He also detailed achievements of the State in different fields. He said that the State apart from being known as the ‘Dev Bhoomi’ is also known as the ‘Veer Bhoomi’ for the valour and supreme sacrifices made by the soldiers serving in Armed Forces in various operations. He also detailed about various initiatives taken by the State Public Service Commission for ensuring its effective functioning.

Bhandana, Chairman Goa Public Service Commission Jose Manuel Noronha, Chairman Gujrat Public Service Commission Shri D.D.Dasa, Chairman Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission K.R.Pisda, Chairman Kerala Public Service Commission M.K.Sakeer, Chairman Odisha Public Service Commission Brig. L.C. Patnaik, Chairman Meghalaya Public Service Commission L.M. Sangma, Senior Member Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission Jai Pal Singh, Special Invitee Dr B.S. Krishna, Members of State Public Service Commission Man Singh, Mohan Chauhan, Meera Walia, Dr Rachna Gupta, were present on the occasion among others.
